Gabe Rueda, bass.
Material:
Wicked Relish is an all balls-out rock & roll band.
Reworking the classic rock sound of the Seventies. This
act aims to recapture the essence that made rock hard
in the days of yore. While it's nearly impossible to innovate
within such a well-worn genre, Wicked Relish intrigues
the listener with their bottom-heavy sound. The combination
of arena rock anthems and Zeppelin-influenced rock tunes
manages to elevate the band well above novelty status
and beyond cover band limbo.
Musicianship:
As the group's sole guitarist, Ferrero manages to create
large riffs that give Wicked Relish their classic rock
appeal. Meanwhile, the brothers' Rueda possess a natural
feel for the bottom end that helps to prevent the songs
from dragging. Between Ferrero, the Reudas and keyboardist
Villasenor, this band produces a large sound that is overwhelmingly
impressive at times and tedious at others. They really
hit their stride, though, when they focus their energy
on the songs instead of pushing sonic barriers.
Performance:
At first appearance the band looked like they belonged
in Seattle in the early Nineties. But their stage show
placed them among the excessive Seventies rockers.
Singer Servet Fidan is the focal point of the performance
and consequently enforces their image. He stole the essence
of Roger Daltrey and Jim Morrison, fusing the two into
his own stage persona. By the fifth song, he was already
half undressed, and, by song eight, he was jumping on
top of amps.
Summary:
Wicked Relish's song quality that is sorely missing in
current rock today. With their beautifully raw image and
a few more focused cuts, this band could follow the same
path as the Black Crows.
